Tuten Construction was founded in 2002 by Mike Tuten, a third-generation builder and lifelong resident of the South Carolina Lowcountry. From the beginning, the company has focused on high-end residential construction with an emphasis on quality craftsmanship, structural integrity, and a thorough understanding of the coastal environment.
Over the years, Tuten Construction has built a reputation for thoughtfully designed custom homes, including deep-water estates, marsh-front properties, and residences throughout the Lowcountry. The company’s approach combines traditional building knowledge with modern construction practices, with particular attention to coastal building requirements, architectural details, and quality materials.
Today, Tuten Construction continues to operate as a boutique residential builder, working closely with homeowners, architects, and design professionals to bring custom homes from concept to completion. Each project is approached with an emphasis on clear communication, attention to detail, and construction that is built to perform in the Lowcountry environment.

Mike Tuten
Owner
Mike Tuten is the owner of Tuten Construction Services, a family-owned and operated construction company established in 1991. With more than three decades of experience in the industry, Mike has built the company on hard work, quality craftsmanship, and strong relationships with customers and the people he works with.
Mike remains actively involved in the business and takes a hands-on approach to each project. He takes particular pride in seeing his son, JD, carry on the family’s involvement in the company and in sharing the knowledge and experience he has gained throughout his career.
Outside of work, Mike enjoys spending time with his family, especially his two sons and two grandsons. He also enjoys hunting, being outdoors, and following Clemson football. For Mike, one of the best parts of owning a family business is being able to involve the family and watch the next generation become part of what he has built.
JD Tuten
Co-Owner
JD Tuten is the co-owner of Tuten Construction Services, working alongside his father, Mike, in the family-owned business. A graduate of Furman University, JD also played football for the university while earning his degree.
Having grown up around the construction industry, JD brings firsthand knowledge of the business along with a fresh perspective to his role. He is involved in the company’s day-to-day operations and works closely with clients, the construction team, and projects from start to finish. His experience, work ethic, and understanding of the family business make him a valuable part of Tuten Construction Services and its continued success.
Outside of work, JD enjoys spending time with family and making the most of his time outdoors. He has a passion for golf and enjoys getting out on the course whenever he can.
Cathy Tuten
Business Manager
Cathy Tuten is the Business Manager at Tuten Construction Services, overseeing the day-to-day operations of the office and the financial side of the business. She handles the many details behind the scenes that keep the company organized and running smoothly, from financial management and administration to supporting the team and keeping business operations on track.
Cathy plays an important role in the company’s overall success, bringing organization, consistency, and attention to detail to everything she does. Her work behind the scenes allows the construction team to stay focused on what they do best—building quality homes and serving their clients.
Outside of work, Cathy enjoys spending time with her family, especially her children and grandchildren. She also loves spending time at the beach and can often be found shopping when she has some free time.
Cynthia Keiffer
Administrative Assistant
Cynthia Keiffer is the Administrative Assistant at Tuten Construction Services, helping keep the office organized and supporting the team with the many details that go into keeping projects and daily operations running smoothly. Her organization, reliability, and attention to detail make her an important part of the Tuten Construction Services team.
Cynthia enjoys the people she works with and being part of a family-owned business where everyone works together. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with friends and family, getting out on the river, and attending Braves baseball games whenever she gets the chance.
Rooted in the Heart of South Carolina Lowcountry
As the company enters its next chapter, Mike Tuten is transitioning the day-to-day operations of the business to his son, JD Tuten. A licensed residential builder in his own right, JD brings technical expertise, modern building strategies, and firsthand experience developed through years of working within the family business.
Together, Mike and JD are continuing the standards that have defined Tuten Construction since 2002 while bringing a modern perspective to the company’s future. The result is a seamless transition that keeps the focus where it has always been: building well-crafted, high-quality homes throughout the South Carolina Lowcountry.
